The #FixPolitics Dialogue (Diaspora Edition) was held on the 23rd of April, 2022 via Zoom and anchored on the topic ‘’Harnessing the Power of the Diaspora to Fix Politics in Nigeria’’.

 

This was the first town hall meeting with the Nigerian Diaspora Community.

The meeting had more than 300 participants from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Austria, Ghana, Ireland, South Africa and Sweden.

Some notable speakers at the inaugural Diaspora Dialogue were: Professor Mojubaolu Okome, Professor of Political Science, Brooklyn College, USA, Dr. Iyore James, President – Physicians Advocacy Group, USA, Mr. Tonye Cole, Co-Founder – Sahara Group, Nigeria, Iyin Aboyeji, Co-founder Andela, Seun Onigbinde, co-founder Budgit, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.

The issues and recommendations arising from the dialogue set the agenda for how Nigerians in diaspora can help fix politics in Nigeria.

The Diaspora Town Hall Meeting was conceived to achieve the following:

  • Help the Nigerian diaspora recognize the powerful influence they are capable of exerting on the political leadership in Nigeria to move towards electoral, constitutional and political reforms;
  • Mobilize and organize the Nigerian diaspora into a credible and powerful group advocating for the attainment of Constitutional Change, Electoral reform and Good Governance in Nigeria;
  • Encourage the Nigerian diaspora to actively campaign and advocate for their right to vote.
  • Work collaboratively with local partners and credible Nigerian diaspora organizations to execute agreed initiatives.
